Blue Wave, Mixed Media
The "Making Waves" series developed in response to interpretations of the annual Arts Foundation Winter Invitational show theme of the same name. These images developed from layered scans of lint representative of crests and troughs, circling movements, ripples and fluid dynamics much like the action of a washing machine and what “materializes” in the dryer. My waves differ in height, duration, shape and tone. Similarly, the ocean transmits particles and energy in an arbitrary way. Each embrace the action of water.
Hurricane Sandy created both physical waves as well as waves of impact on people and places with far-reaching effects. I took a walk on the beach to capture the wind's interaction with all the independent random variables that caused the storm and thought, what better way to document a natural phenomenon that was also "making waves.
